Larry Whiteley started out with just a small welder in a garage with a dirt floor...
He first realized his appetite for working with metal while customizing the 1949 Studebaker pick-up. Using the skills he learned from passion his for custom hot rods, he began designing and sculpting, fine art, decorative art and home furnishings.
Larry takes his inspiration from his travels to France, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, California and the Northeast. He also recalls pouring over black and white photographs of the famous Washington D.C. cherry blossoms that his grandmother captured as a young woman. He has intensely studied artists like Alberto and Diego Giacometti, the Lalannes and many others. Taking their style of bronze work he makes it his by using forged steel to interpret their works. He combs through art, gardening and design books studying the way nature combines lines and form. He then goes to his shop and bangs out delicate works such as the “Spring Nest.” or a table of gingko leaves. Or he studies a Japanese blue and white porcelain dragons head and picks up his carving tools and carves a likeness out of acrylic.
Given his big break by Forty Five Ten, one of the country’s leading fashion and home decor shops, and was soon being commissioned to produce custom furnishings for top design firms in Dallas including: Charlotte Comer Interiors, Inc., Mary Anne Smiley, Gensler, Linda Frtichy Interiors and Moore Design. His work can be found in the George Bush Presidential Center, Hunt Oil Headquarters, Devon Energy Headquarters, Reunion Tower, Sheraton Dallas, and San Saba River Nature Park as well as many residents throughout the US.
He has been featured in magazines such as, Veranda, Paper City – Dallas, DHome, Modern Luxury Dallas, Dallas Design Guide and more. Larry prides himself in personal service and giving his client one of a kind works of art they will cherish for a lifetime.
